The Indianapolis Colts have relieved themselves of a nine-game losing streak that dated to last season as they prepare to play the Washington Commanders (also 1-2) in London in NFL Week 4 action.

The Colts took a mammoth leap forward defensively, holding the Houston Texans to 81 total yards through three quarters of a 19-17 win. The Indy offense suffered three giveaways but put Spencer Shrader in position for four field goals, including the winner in the closing seconds.

"The losing streak is over, but the Colts are still a long way from being back to what they were before last year’s collapse."

Frank Schwab, Yahoo: 19th, up 2

"The best news for the Colts is that Daniel Jones continues to make progress. A slow start should have been expected as he was returning from a torn Achilles, and he looked rusty at times in the first two games. In Week 3, against a very good Texans defense, Jones completed 24-of-36 passes for 235 yards. He came up with enough plays on the final drive to get Indianapolis in position for a game-winning field goal, after it looked like the Colts might blow a 16-7 lead in the fourth quarter and fall to 0-3. Jones fumbled three times, losing two, but facing defensive end Will Anderson Jr. is tough for any quarterback.

"Overall, Jones is progressing. Don't forget how good he was for the first half of last season before the injury."

"The defense showed improvement in the victory over the Texans, breaking a nine-game losing streak that dated to last year. Then again, it had nowhere to go but up."

"In what was the toughest watch of the week, the Colts managed to outlast the Texans despite three Daniel Jones giveaways. They can thank their defense — one of the worst in the NFL entering Week 3 — for finding some solid footing and shutting down the woeful Texans offense (for most of the game). Spencer Shrader deserves some flowers too, because the guy has been nails (8-of-8 on field-goal attempts, including 3-of-3 from 50-plus) this season."

"Daniel Jones moved around a little bit better last week, but he's still not as mobile as he used to be. The Colts somehow managed to beat the Texans despite having an immobile quarterback and an injured No. 1 receiver."

"The next month will be pivotal for the Colts — a four-game stretch against the Commanders, Steelers, Titans and Vikings. If the Colts want to claw back into the AFC South hunt, they need to figure out a way to eke out three wins before opening November against the Jaguars in Jacksonville."

"It’s hard to get too worked up about Daniel Jones being good or bad at this point of his career. Jones is 26th in the league in passer rating (80.8), 27th in yards per attempt (6.2) and tied for 29th in touchdown-to-interception ratio (3-to-3). He’s not a running threat anymore (19 yards for the season), and the Colts are treading water in the AFC South. If blah had a color scheme, it would be whatever the Colts are wearing each week."

"Good news for the Colts: They won’t face a really good offensive team again until they travel to Jacksonville in November."
