Max Muncy Reveals the Dodgers’ Strategy to ‘Keep the Switch Flipped’ for October

On Tuesday, he revealed what he and the team are doing to prepare for a run at a third straight World Series title.

What are the Dodgers doing to get ready for the playoffs?

As the Dodgers wait to find out who they’ll be facing in the National League Division Series, the players are working to stay ready and are strengthening their bond ahead of a grueling October.

“We’re trying to focus on ourselves getting ready this week,” he said via Zoom.

The way Muncy described the team’s strategy was something akin to the saying “if you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.”

Similar to what the team did in 2024, the Dodgers still gather at the stadium daily, even without games to play.

It comes at a cost to players’ personal lives and time with their families, but Muncy argued that it’s necessary for the nature of playoff baseball.

Whereas teams with a bye might be more rested, they also are “going to be facing a team that’s already been through the fire.”

“It’s hard to go from being in an at-home setting to find trying to find a way to flip the switch,” he said. “And so the best way for us to do that was you get everyone together, you keep them at the field, you find a way to not let that switch ever be flipped off. That was something that I thought we did a really good job of in ’24 and we’re going to try to do it again this year.”

It also helps the Dodgers continue to build team chemistry, as “the postseason is when you’re going to come together,” he said.

That cohesiveness will be key when the level of competition is this high.

Dodgers expect to get everyone’s best

The Dodgers have struggled against some of the top teams in baseball this year, but Muncy said every opponent is difficult.

“This is the big leagues. These are the best players in the world,” he said.

Given that, he’s not worried about the level of competition changing in the playoffs, pointing to multiple examples of one team dominating another in the regular season only for the tables to be flipped come October.

“I know there’s things you look at on paper where you say, ‘this is a good matchup,’ but in October, it really doesn’t matter,” he said.

All that does matter is what happens on the field, and on Saturday, we’ll find out.
