The Atlanta Braves are gearing up for their first World Series push in two years. Last season was a brutal one, as the Braves didn’t even make it to October for playoff baseball. In 2026, they have battled injury after injury, and it could pay off with a trip to the playoffs.
Atlanta has enjoyed watching Ronald Acuna Jr. play when healthy this season. He is eligible for another extension soon, but the Braves are hesitant due to his injury history.
“Now Acuña, I'm sure, would welcome talks for an extension because he'd had so many injuries, but I just don't see it happening. I do see him, in two years, becoming a free agent,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said.
On Tuesday night, Atlanta had a nightmare reality almost come true with the playoffs approaching. Acuna left the game after fouling a ball off his shin, putting his status for the playoffs up in the air.
“Ronald Acuña Jr. has been taken out of the game after he took a swing and the ball ricocheted off his leg. We'll have more updates when they become available,” The Athletic’s Jesus Cano posted.
This was a moment when the Braves and their fans held their breath, hoping it was nothing serious. After the game, it was revealed that Acuna hurt his shin, but X-rays came back negative.
“OF Ronald Acuña Jr. left tonight’s game due to a left shin contusion. X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day,” the Braves posted.
It won’t be surprising if Acuna is done for the regular season to get completely healthy for their playoff run. The injury was a freak one that happened when the ball hit the one spot that wasn’t covered by an accessory.
With this update, the entire Braves fanbase can breathe a huge sigh of relief for their superstar. Atlanta doesn’t want to put its stars in harm's way, so it will be interesting to see if Walt Weiss starts mixing up his lineups after the Acuna injury.
