Esteban Ocon Confirms Free Agent Status as Haas F1 Exit Looms: “Out of My Control”

Esteban Ocon is a free agent as things stand for 2027, with him stating that there are things out of his control within the Haas F1. An exit is now looming over his head.
Having switched from Alpine to Haas in the hope for a better start under new regulations of 2026, Ocon has more or less remained in the same limbo of ‘could be’ and ‘would be’. Last year, it was an inconsistent run when F1 rookie Oliver Bearman got the better of him.

Ocon Has Suffered from Inconsistency

But the Brit has the Ferrari backing on his side, along with the young status. Ocon has neither, considering the experience. Team boss Ayao Komatsu has stressed the point multiple times.
The Japanese has no issues that Ocon was in talks with other F1 teams and confirmed five drivers in frame for the season. The Frenchman is on the list alongside Rafael Camara, Leonardo Fornaroli, Jack Doohan and Ryo Hirakawa – all who have tested under Testing of Previous Cars programme.
While Komatsu has talked more about Fornaroli, but reports has linked current F2 title contender and Ferrari junior Camara to be in-line to replace Ocon. To add to the growing speculation, the Frenchman affirmed his free agent status when speaking with media in F1 Azerbaijan GP.

“There are certain topics that are out of my control. So, I will keep pushing until the end of the year and see how it goes,” summed up Ocon, while affirming that he is in talks with other F1 teams, by simply stating, ‘of course’, when asked by the media.
It was another two words answer, when put forward about his intentions to continue with Haas in F1 2027. “Let’s see,” he said.
