Veteran defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins has announced his retirement from the NFL after a 12-year career, reports NFL insider Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report.

Hankins, a former second-round pick by the New York Giants out of Ohio State in the 2013 NFL draft, informed Schultz of his decision. The 34-year-old appeared in 169 career games across five teams, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier run-stuffing interior defensive linemen.
Selected 49th overall, Hankins spent his first four seasons with the Giants from 2013 to 2016. He recorded a career-high 7.0 sacks during the 2014 season and helped the team reach the playoffs in 2016. After departing New York, he played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2017, the Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Seattle Seahawks.
A first-team All-American at Ohio State in 2012, Hankins finishes his professional career with more than 430 tackles and 18.5 sacks. The Dearborn Heights, Michigan native leaves the game after a steady and productive tenure as a reliable nose tackle and interior defensive lineman.
