Daily Bean: Bruins Lines; Hellebuyck Talk; Remaining Arbitration Dates
· Yahoo Sports
The Boston Bruins are 73 days away from puck drop at TD Garden.
Training camp opens in less than two months, and from there, the Bruins will have a full 84-game schedule to navigate. Yesterday, BHN took a shot at opening night lines, trimming the depth chart down to four lines, three pairs, and the extra skaters. Oh, and the goalies, but that is one we all knew beforehand.

The Bruins are not the only team in the Daily with projected lines, either.
Elsewhere around the league, the Flyers avoided another arbitration hearing with a four-year deal, and life in New Jersey after the Anthony Mantha signing. The Sharks also made changes this summer, revamping their blue line ahead of the 2026-27 season, and Connor Hellebuyck remains in trade talks surrounding an Atlantic Division team.
Six of the 12 arbitration cases have already been settled. Hearings begin Thursday and continue through Saturday, August 1. The Avalanche also beat out the Canucks for a new AHL head coach, but the Canucks’ offer did not even compete with the coach’s previous junior league job.
Happy Saturday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:
Boston Bruins
LINEUP 1.0: Opening day is now 73 days away. Marco Sturm has plenty of decisions from now until then, as does Don Sweeney. The Bruins have a surplus of NHL forwards and defensemen and will have to make some hard cuts come late September. However, they seem pretty set in goal.
DEPTH CHART: Here is the Bruins’ depth chart, including all 27 NHL-capable players.
NHL News & National Hockey Now
Philly Hockey Now: The Flyers signed Jamie Drysdale to a four-year deal worth $6.5 million annually. The 24-year-old defenseman is coming off a 32-point season, matching a career-high (2021-22). Will James has more on the signing, and he had a pretty neat view while writing.
New Jersey Hockey Now: What will Anthony Mantha bring to New Jersey? It’s been widely debated after his 33-goal season in Pittsburgh, but James Nichols reached out to Penguins’ insiders to get their thoughts.
San Jose Hockey Now: The Sharks made a lot of changes on the blue line this summer. Sheng Peng talked to four NHL scouts about the future of the Sharks defense, and how it “significantly improved” over the last month.
TSN (video): Does Connor Hellebuyck get traded this offseason? Sabres goalie-turned-analyst Martin Biron joined TSN’s panel to talk about the two-time Vezina winner and his fit in Buffalo.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Dan Kingerski dives into the Penguins’ opening night lineup. They had a few departures this summer, including former Bruins Parker Wotherspoon and Noel Acciari, but brought in players like Andrei Kuzmenko and Nick Robertson.
New Jersey Hockey Now: James Nichols also takes a look at the Devils’ lineup fresh off the Mantha signing.
PuckPedia: Hearing dates have been out for the 12 RFAs who elected for arbitration, but now we are down to six. Jamie Drysdale, Trevor Zegras, and Cole Perfetti are among the players who avoided their hearings by inking a new deal this past week.
- Jet Greaves (CBJ) – Thursday, July 23
- Jason Robertson (DAL) – Saturday, July 25
- Cole Sillinger (CBJ) – Monday, July 27
- Ronan Seeley (CAR) – Wednesday, July 29
- Alex Jefferies (NYI) – Thursday, July 30

Colorado Hockey Now: The Colorado Eagles hired up-and-coming coach Jussi Ahokas yesterday. Ahokas will make his North American pro coaching debut after the last three seasons with the Kitchener Rangers (OHL).
The Province: The Canucks wanted to hire Ahokas to their AHL team in Abbotsford, but they did not cough up a better offer than his OHL team. Yikes.
Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers have suspended head equipment manager Teddy Richards after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge and a count of unauthorized use of 911 services.
