Max Eberl impressed by how Bayern Munich ‘crushed’ Atalanta in UCL knockout clash
· Yahoo Sports
Nobody expected that things to be so comprehensive. Bayern Munich were certainly heavy favorites to pull off a victory going into their match against Atalanta Bergamo in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg, but few saw a 6-1 victory coming. But that is exactly what happened as Bayern rolled over their opposition.
The victory was so comprehensive that Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, could only praise the effort:

“From the first minute on, you could see what we wanted to do, the idea, the plan, the willingness. We just crushed them, and then we were also very efficient in scoring goals,” Eberl said, as captured by Bayern’s official website. “It was an impressive performance by the team. We saw how Atalanta played against Dortmund, but we didn’t give them any space to breathe. We combined, also forced the second ball at the right moments, went long, pushed up, won the ball, played deep and utilised the spaces that appeared. I think we really did a lot right today.”
Of course, the job is not done yet. Bayern will welcome Atalanta to their stadium in a week’s time for their second leg with a big advantage and look to finish the job by bringing the quality they showed today in the return leg as well.
