The Whitesboro Warriors made national sports highlights early Halloween Saturday with a last-gasp playoff pass deflection into a last-second lateral on a 45-yard touchdown play to beat Carthage 31-30 and send fans at Chiz Frye Field into pandemonium.

The play was ranked No. 3 on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays and broadcast nationally on the network's flagship program alongside the likes of the Milwaukee Brewers' World Series celebration.
It started on the Comets 45-yard line as Frank Zupancic dropped back and threw a pass toward the left sideline where Connor McDonald made a diving catch attempt but was hit mid-air as the ball deflected off his hands. Landon Pearsall was waiting to haul in the tipped ball, securing it just a few feet away from McDonald and turning downfield.
Pearsall couldn't get any momentum before defenders swarmed. While wrapped up in an ankle tackle, Pearsall threw an awkward-looking, hooking lateral back to McDonald, who hopped off the turf to grab the ball and sprint 20 yards to the end zone with no time on the clock for the game-winning score in the NYSPHSAA Section 3 Class A quarterfinal game.

Up next for the Warriors (6-3) is a semifinal matchup at top-seeded Auburn next weekend. The Class A final will be held Nov. 13 at JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.
