VITALS: The Kansas State Wildcats are coming off a 28-17 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils. They have three of the last four games, with the only victory coming against the rival Kansas Jayhawks in the Sunflower Showdown two weeks ago. The biggest news entering this weekend's game in Boulder is the quarterback situation for the WIldcats. Starter Avery Johnson is out for a second straight game due to an undisclosed injury. Although no starter has been named yet, all signs are pointing toward sophomore Dillon Duff getting the call. Last week's starter, Jacob Knuthe, is listed as doubtful. The other quarterback, Blake Barnett, is also dealing with an injury. The team's emergency quarterback is running back Joe Jackson, who actually lined up in the Wildcat offense last week against the Sun Devils. At 1-3 in the Big 12 conference, Kansas State is likely out of the league title discussion, which means no College Football Player, either. It's been an up and down season in coach Collin Klein's first year at the helm. He's not under as much pressure as Colorado coach Deion Sanders, who is starting to hear it from the Buffaloes fan base. Sanders is in the middle of his fourth season but the Buffaloes are the only winless team left in the conference. He's also starting to take heat from the media. One headline this week from a local outlet was if he was coaching for his job this week against the Wildcats. There are also rumors of Sanders leaving to take the job for the Florida State Seminoles if it becomes available. He was a standout with the Seminoles in the late 1980s before beginning an NFL Hall of Fame career. Among the biggest concerns for the Wildcats is the running game and run defense. Both were problem areas in all three losses this season. The run game will be especially important this week because of the quarterback situation.

QUOTABLE:

K-State coach Collin Klein on the Buffaloes: "They do a lot of different things schematically on both sides of the football. Both coordinators are very creative and do a lot. They have talent. They've got guys that can run on both sides of the ball. Their D-tackles are extremely twitchy and fire off the football. They're a talented football team."

QUOTABLE II:

Colorado coach Deion Sanders on the team's issues: “But defensively, offensively, running the ball, throwing the ball, creating turnovers, eliminating the penalties, we gotta have some kind of consistency,” Sanders said. “That’s the only thing we’re consistent in, is getting penalties. And that don’t make sense to me.”
