Sean Brady is out of the Nov. 7 headliner due to injury, leaving Gabriel Bonfim without an opponent. The five-round welterweight bout was scheduled atop the card at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
A person with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the injury Thursday, but asked to remain anonymous because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Brazilian journalist Laerte Viana was first to report.
It's unclear if the promotion is seeking a replacement to fight Bonfim (20-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC), or if it's eyeing a new main event entirely. The co-main event currently is a women's strawweight contenders bout between Virna Jandiroba and Tatiana Suarez.
Brady (19-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) aimed to build on momentum gained during a May unanimous decision victory over Joaquin Buckley. Bonfim is seeking his second main event win in a row, following a unanimous decision victory over Belal Muhammad in June. A victory would extend his overall streak to six.
With the change, the UFC Fight Night 293 fight card includes:
- Gabriel Bonfim vs. TBD
- Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez
- Davey Grant vs. Elijah Smith
- Seok Hyeon Ko vs. Wellington Turman
- Billy Elekana vs. Lucas Fernando
- Mantas Kondratavicius vs. Andre Petroski
- Gabriella Fernandes vs. Karine Silva
- Jonny Parsons vs. Jose Souza
- Jose Delano vs. Murtazali Magomedov
- Keiichiro Nakamura vs. Ollie Schmid
- Priscila Cachoeira vs. Nina Milosevic
- Marcos Degli vs. Mitch Raposo
- Gabriel Lorenco vs. Thomas Petersen
- Austin Bashi vs. TBD
