Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren is putting together the best season of his career, and his production has placed him alongside one of the NFL’s top dual-threat backs, Christian McCaffrey.
According to SūmerSports, Warren is the first running back to record at least 550 rushing yards and 250 receiving yards through his team’s first seven games of a season since McCaffrey accomplished the feat in 2019. Warren has given Pittsburgh a reliable option on the ground and through the air, making him a key part of the team’s offense.
Warren has been productive throughout the season, including back-to-back games with at least 100 rushing yards against the Colts and Saints. He also had 188 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns against Indianapolis, showing how much damage he can do as both a runner and receiver.

The Steelers have another option in Rico Dowdle, giving the team a running back tandem that can help take pressure off quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Pittsburgh also has weapons such as D.K. Metcalf and rookie Germie Bernard in the passing game, giving Rodgers multiple ways to move the ball. Michael Pittman Jr. will return as well.
However, Warren’s production has become one of the biggest reasons for optimism in Pittsburgh. His ability to contribute in different areas of the offense gives the Steelers flexibility, whether they need to control the clock with their running game or get the ball into the hands of a playmaker in space.
McCaffrey has established himself as one of the league’s premier all-purpose running backs, making the statistical comparison a notable milestone for Warren. Maintaining that pace over the rest of the season will be difficult, but he has already shown he can handle a large workload without losing his effectiveness.
Pittsburgh sits among the AFC’s contenders, and continued production from Warren could help the team remain in that position. The Steelers have other pieces on offense, but a back who can consistently create yards as both a runner and receiver gives Rodgers another dependable option.
If Warren continues producing at this level, Pittsburgh’s offense will be harder to defend as the season progresses. His breakout could become one of the Steelers’ biggest advantages as they pursue a deeper run in the AFC.
