5 standouts from Packers' Week 7 loss to the Lions
· Yahoo Sports
The Green Bay Packers’ three-game win streak ended on Sunday with a 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions. At times, it appeared as if the Packers were going to overcome their mistakes -- whether it was drops on offense and defense, legitimate or phantom penalties, or missed field goals -- and pull out a win. However, they ultimately left with their tails between their legs following a walk-off field goal.

Green Bay falls to 4-3 and is once again in last place in the NFC North. Here are the standouts from a disappointing divisional loss:
OL John Williams
The Packers were down to their third-string center after Sean Rhyan and Jacob Monk exited with injuries. That required Williams to take his first career snaps at a position he didn’t even play during the preseason. Surprisingly, though, the 2025 seventh-round pick held his own. The offense finished with 324 yards of total offense with Williams playing a majority of the game. During his postgame presser, Matt LaFleur didn’t sound confident that Rhyan and Monk would be back on a short week, so Williams may get his first career start Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.
RB Josh Jacobs
Even with their top running back making his season debut, the Packers managed just 60 yards on 19 carries. Still, Jacobs’ return provided a spark on offense with his 25-yard touchdown reception during the third quarter. On third-and-6, he turned up field after catching a short pass to the left, breaking two tackles on his way to the end zone to put his team up 14-10. Jacobs finished with five catches for 55 yards and 36 rushing yards on 11 attempts, for a total of 91 yards on 16 touches. He did drop a potential touchdown pass in a crucial spot in the fourth quarter.
Oh my goodness!

DT Anthony Campbell
With Javon Hargrave going on season-ending injured reserve with an Achilles, the Packers has had to lean on their depth at defensive tackle. Campbell was a standout during the preseason and has seen an uptick in snaps since Hargrave’s injury. The former undrafted free agent flashed in a big way on Sunday, recording his first career sack, a tackle for loss, and knocking down a pass at the line of scrimmage on second down during a third-quarter drive that ended in a turnover on downs while the Packers were trailing by three.
CB Brandon Cisse
His second career interception was wiped away by a pass interference penalty, and he gave up multiple catches to Amon-Ra St. Brown, but the rookie showed great resiliency coming up big in a crucial moment. Just after the PI penalty and Campbell’s pass breakup, Jared Goff went after Cisse on third and fourth down from the Green Bay 6-yard line, but both passes intended were incomplete. He batted away the first pass in the end zone and, on the second, pushed Jameson Williams out of the back of the end zone to prevent a touchdown. Cisse played a key role in preventing the Lions from extending their lead. He finished the game with seven combined tackles and two pass defenses.
CB Keisean Nixon
Nixon also struggled to contain St. Brown on a 9-catch, 153-yard day, but like Cisse, came up big when it mattered most. With the game tied 17-17 with less than five minutes remaining, Detroit gambled by going for it on fourth-and-1 from their own 24-yard line. They handed it off to Jahmyr Gibbs, but a blitzing Nixon tackled him for a two-yard loss and a turnover on downs. Unfortunately, the Packers squandered the clutch play and chance to take control of the game, settling for a 35-yard field goal attempt that ended up being blocked by Lions defensive end D.J. Wonnum.
BIG STOP. KEISEAN NIXON.
