Coach Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions welcomed Matt LaFleur and Jordan Love’s Green Bay Packers to town in Week 7, a game that included a fourth-down gamble on Jahmyr Gibbs that did not work out. Top defensive back Brian Branch made his return for the Lions and had a fantastic interception that was part of a winning second half for Detroit, capped by a Jake Bates field goal to win it late.
Bates’ game-winning field goal gave the Lions a 20-17 win, sending them to 4-2 on the season and helping Campbell keep pace with his former protege Ben Johnson in Chicago.

Bates has become a fan favorite in Motown for his clutch field goals over the years. He delivered when the Lions needed him the most, giving Campbell a huge win that bodes well for his team’s playoff hopes going forward.
The Lions outdueled the Packers in the friendly confines of Ford Field as star offensive players Gibbs, Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown all had huge days, showcasing the play-calling ingenuity of new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. Goff had 303 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions while Gibbs ran for 116 yards and added 27 receiving yards. St. Brown had nine catches for 153 yards and got support from fellow wideout Jameson Williams, who had 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Campbell and the Lions’ fans entered this week feeling frustrated amid a Sam LaPorta contract squabble, but made the most of their opportunity to beat a division rival and chase down another rival. The Vikings are atop the division at 6-0, but not all hope is lost as Detroit is on a mini-hot streak heading toward the midway point.
