The Houston Rockets will face an early test as they take on the San Antonio Spurs at Moody Center on Friday. The Rockets handily won their first game against the Dallas Mavericks, 128-110, on Wednesday.

Houston looked great versus the Mavericks, showcasing its starting unit of Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Sengun. The Rockets will only get better as VanVleet tries to regain his form after missing more than 500 days with an ACL injury.

For The Ringer’s Zach Lowe, it is not the time for Clutch City to be timid.

“The Rockets are good enough that they should make an all-in trade and actually try to win the championship this year and chase the (Oklahoma City) Thunder and the (San Antonio) Spurs,” said Lowe.

“The two is an interesting spot for them to perhaps upgrade in, and I don’t know who they end up bringing off the bench in that case. Maybe Jabari Smith Jr. comes off the bench if they keep Fred and get a two.”

Lowe mentioned Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns as an ideal target, reuniting him with Durant. Lowe, however, quickly dismissed the idea.

“They have all those (Phoenix) Suns picks, and I don’t know if they had visions, but Devin Booker certainly made a lot of sense from them. But now he’s under this gigantic contract. I don’t know if Houston would have an appetite,” stated Lowe.

Last year, Booker signed a two-year, $145 million contract extension with the Suns.

The Rockets could dangle Reed Sheppard, Tari Eason, and draft capital in trade offers if they want to land an elite player.

With Durant not getting any younger, the Rockets might want to do their due diligence for a blockbuster trade that could help them get over the hump and reach the NBA Finals for the first time since winning the title in 1995.
