Poochie Snyder making plays for Sacred Heart football, Stark college updates

The Sacred Heart football team opened the season with three losses, but the team has bounced back to win two straight behind the play of quarterback Poochie Snyder.

The 6-foot, 203-pound junior led the Pioneers to a 20-15 victory over New Hampshire on Sept. 26 on the home field in Fairfield, Conn.

Snyder came back to lead Sacred Heart to a a 24-16 triumph at Maine on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Snyder was just 8-for-10 passing for 95 yards but ran the ball 15 times for 67 yards with a touchdown against New Hampshire. In the Maine game, he had a season-best 207 passing yards, hitting 21 of 27 passes with two touchdowns. He also rushed for 73 yards on 15 carries. The victories helped Sacred Heart even its Coastal Athletic Association record at 2-2.

On the season, Snyder has competed 74 of 105 passes for 765 yards with eight touchdowns and just one interception. He has also carried the ball 65 times for 270 yards. His passing efficiency rating (154.91) ranks 17th in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Kate Delaney (Jackson)

The freshman is a key defender with the Findlay women’s soccer team (7-2-2, 4-1-2 Great Midwest Athletic Conference). Delaney, making just her third start of the season, was on the field for all 90 minutes of a 1-0 upset victory over previously unbeaten and sixth-ranked Ashland on Saturday, Oct. 3. She has helped Findlay hold foes to just five goals with seven shutouts.

Dante McClellan (Canton McKinley)

The 6-1, 227-pound sophomore linebacker is seeing action with the 16th-ranked Missouri football team (4-1). McClellan had two assists in a 45-17 upset of No. 8 Florida on Saturday, Oct. 3. He has seen action in all five games and has 13 tackles. He had his best game when he had six tackles, two unassisted, in a 31-24 loss to Mississippi State. As a true freshman, McClellan saw action in 12 games.

Olivia Gang (Green)

The graduate student posted a big effort, and it helped the Toledo women’s cross country team finish first out of 24 teams in the Gold Division race at Notre Dame’s annual Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2. Gang finished third out of 213 entrants with a personal-record 5,000-meter time of 17:16.1. She had a PR on a 6,000-meter course when she finished 10th with a time of 23:32.6 at the We Fly Challenge on Sept. 14 in Muncie, Ind.

Nino Hill (Canton McKinley)

The 5-10, 215-pound running back is the second leading rusher on the Buffalo football team (2-3). Hill has carried the ball 41 times for 124 yards. He had his best game in a 30-27 victory over Robert Morris on Sept. 26 in front of a large Homecoming Day. He carried the ball 21 times for 64 yards and had touchdown runs of 1 and 4 yards.

Connor Reed (Perry)

The redshirt sophomore helped the Grand Valley State men’s cross country team post a perfect 15 points to capture the Red October race on Friday, Oct. 2 in Saginaw Valley, Mich. Reed finished fifth out of 69 runners with a personal-record 8,000-meter time of 23:38.6. He was the fifth Laker to cross the finish line. Reed’s previous best time came (23:50.4) at that distance when he finished 20th out of 134 entrants in the Open race at Notre Dame’s Joe Piane Invitational last October.

Noah Emmons (Louisville)

The junior has started 10 games in goal for the Muskingum men’s soccer team (8-2-1, 0-1-0 OAC). The team had a recent eight-game winning streak. Emmons has given up 11 goals with 31 saves and five shutouts. He started nine games as a freshman but saw action in one game last season.

Amelia Mohler (Hoover)

The Ohio Northern women’s golf team posted back-to-back victories, and the freshman did her part for the Polar Bears. Mohler shot a two-round total of 164 on rounds of 79 and 85 to finish third at the Jimmy Hamlin Classic, Oct. 5-6, in Concord, the team beating four other colleges. On Sept. 11-12, Ohio Northern won the 10-team Heidelberg Fall Invite in Fostoria. She finished tied for 11th with an 82-77-159 score.

Kylie Porter (Hoover)

The Baldwin Wallace sophomore was named OAC Women’s Golfer of the Week on Sept. 24 after finishing third at Walsh’s Cavalier Fall Invitational on Sept. 18. She posted a 7-over 79. It was her third career OAC weekly award. Porter had a big freshman season for the Yellow Jackets. She tied for fourth in the conference tournament to earn all-tournament honors and she earned first-team honors and was named OAC Freshman of the Year.

Silas Kirkpatrick (Green)

The freshman was named Male Golfer of the Week by the National Christian College Athletic Association on Oct. 5 after an outstanding effort for Cedarville at the Ashland Crossroads Cup on Sept. 28-29 in Nashport. The 5-7, 135-pounder easily earned medalist honors with a 6-under 54-hole total of 210 over the par-72 course. He had rounds of 69, 65 and 76, the 65 total setting a program record. The Yellow Jackets finished fourth out of 13 teams.

Boston Mulinix (West Branch)

The 5-8, 195-pound sophomore is the second-leading rusher on the Baldwin Wallace football team (4-0, 2-0 OAC). Mulinix scored the first touchdown of the game on a 25-yard run in a 41-26 victory over Heidelberg on Saturday, Oct. 5. He has carried the ball 50 times for 333 yards (6.7 average) with three TDs. In the season-opening 84-26 win over Bethany, he rushed for 142 yards with three TDs.
