“There’s Certainly A Line, And That Can’t Be Crossed” – Caitlin Clark Reflects On WNBA Fans Booing Her While Revealing Secret To Avoid Online Hate

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) rushes up the court Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, during the game two of the first round of the WNBA Playoffs at Gainbrigde Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

There are not many places in the country where Caitlin Clark faces boos, but Golden State Valkyries fans made sure she felt it. When the Fever played in San Francisco in May, Clark was booed on almost every play. The superstar guard was asked about it on Thursday, and she clarified the boos were fine but drew a line.

Clark also revealed how she avoided hate messages by simply not reading direct messages on her social media accounts. Many players are booed during games, especially while playing in rival cities. However, Clark believes there should be a line that should not be crossed:

“Golden State booed me every time I touched the ball, and I liked that. I thought that was great and fun. That’s what makes the game fun. They’re passionate. You can boo; you can yell at people. I was just watching the Yankees playoff baseball last night. Man, those Yankee fans are brutal! But I think there’s certainly a line, and that can’t be crossed. I think any of us and any person in their right mind knows there’s certain rhetoric that’s just not OK, and that’s not something I’ve ever stood for.”

The Fever were shown the exit in Round 1 against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, who are now engaged in a semifinal matchup with the Valkyries. Golden State leads the series 2-0 after winning 83-81 in Game 2.

Caitlin Clark responds to Kelsey Mitchell’s viral statement

When Caitlin Clark addressed the media on Thursday, she was asked the most expected question because of Kelsey Mitchell’s viral comment about Fever players receiving extreme hate.

Clark said she never supports hate in any form and expressed empathy with Mitchell and other teammates:

“It makes you upset because you care about your teammates so much. … As far as people that have used me to demonstrate racist rhetoric or hate or discrimination, that’s not something I stand for.”

Clark and Mitchell were two of the season’s highest-scoring duos, but the two might part ways this offseason as fans speculated about Mitchell’s new destination on social media.
