Cooper Newman's prolific high school career has led him to a state championship during his sophomore season and a Mr. Football crown as a junior.

Now in his final season of high school football, the UConn football commit now owns the title of Tennessee's all-time passing touchdown leader.

Entering Friday night's game against Cocke County (TN) on Oct. 2, Newman was two touchdowns short of the record former Christian Academy of Knoxville standout quarterback Charlie High who had 131 career passing touchdowns. High set the previous record during his stretch of playing from 2010-2012.

By the end of Friday night's matchup, Newman was clear of the old record. Newman had six touchdown passes by halftime and was honored at the half.

Newman began his high school playing career at Dolly Parton's alma mater starting as a freshman for the Smoky Bears. That year he led Sevier County to a 10-2 record, completing 58% of his passes for 1,891 yards and 22 touchdowns.

He upped his game to another level as a sophomore. Completing 72% of his passes for 3,488 yards and 45 touchdowns, Newman led the Smoky Bears to a 15-0 record and their first state championship since 1999.

Newman once again led Sevier County to the TSSAA Class 5A championship last year, but they came up a few points short in that contest. He did earn top individual honors though becoming the program's first Tennessee Titans Mr. Football winner after completing 73% of his passes for 3,705 yards and 45 touchdowns.

He announced his commitment to the Huskies on June 9 and entering Friday night's contest against Cocke County, he was on a similar tear with 1,042 yards and 17 touchdowns through Sevier County's first five games.
