The New England Patriots added Drake Maye to their injury report this week, but Mike Vrabel made clear Friday that the quarterback hasn't been limited in practice.

Maye was listed with a right shoulder injury after previously not appearing on the report. He has been a full participant and hasn't missed a practice rep.

Vrabel was asked why Maye was added despite having no limitations.

“I don't think I can help clarify it,” Vrabel told reporters. “We're just trying to follow the protocol exactly how it's given to us as it relates to the injury report, the way that we report it.”

Vrabel said the shoulder issue came from the Patriots' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He described it as a routine situation in which players report potential injuries after a game.

“Guys go through the game ... and says, ‘Hey, thought this was something, can you take a look at it,’” Vrabel said.

The Patriots coach also said Maye's status was listed out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the team was following the proper reporting procedures.

“He practiced full, didn't miss any reps,” Vrabel said. “So we just felt like it was best to list it just to make sure we're doing everything we're supposed to do from a protocol standpoint.”

Vrabel did not know exactly what treatment Maye received this week but said he was sure the quarterback had spent time in the training room.
