While most expected Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson to dust off the same run-heavy game plan he used last year against the Philadelphia Eagles, he pivoted to a quick passing attack that seemed to keep Philly off balance. It was brilliant strategy, as Vic Fangio and the Eagles likely didn’t expect it, especially with third-string quarterback Case Keenum forced to start.

Keenum hadn’t thrown a pass in an NFL game since 2024, and at 38, it felt like they’d want to limit his exposure. But Johnson had other ideas. He knew Keenum had the experience and enough life in his arm to execute the game plan. They didn’t call many long developing passes or rollouts for him, as it was a lot of rhythm passing and play action. His average time to throw, 2.41 seconds, is the quickest of all quarterbacks this season with at least 30 attempts.

Getting the ball out quickly and expertly navigating the Eagles’ blitz meant zero sacks to break down this week!

There was one sack, but a penalty wiped it out, so it doesn’t count. At his postgame press conference, Keenum talked about his offensive line’s stellar pass protection and mentioned the negated sack, saying, “PFF may count those.”
