This past weekend, there were six matchups involving Top 25 ranked teams. Plus two upsets of the ranked by the unranked.
Of course, the results meant significant change in the rankings. Seven teams rose or fell at least three spots in the poll. And four teams joined the Top 25 from the unranked.
The question: It is about to happen again? Sad to report, probably not.
The slate of games this week is light on the potential for drama. Just three involve matchups of ranked teams: Alabama at Mississippi State, Florida at Missouri and Ohio State at Iowa. In nine of the other games that include a ranked team, the oddsmakers have set the point spread in double digits. In other words, a slow day at the Upset Inn.
I looked ahead to the weekend of Oct. 9 and it is more of the same. It is going to be a boring first part of the month in college football.
But it always gets better in November and seems pointed that way this season.
