Oregon women's cross-country, Juliet Cherubet open season with a win

Juliet Cherubet and the No. 5 Oregon women’s cross-country team knocked off the rust with a dominant season opener.

Cherubet led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Ducks Sept. 26 in the Mike Johnson Classic at Ash Creek Preserve at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.
Cherubet won the 6,000-meter race in 18 minutes, 36.7 seconds.
Ava Parekh was the runner-up in 18.36.7, Landen LeBlond was third in 20:37.3 and Kendall Martin fourth in 20:44.2. Samantha McDonnell rounded out the Ducks’ team win with an eighth-place finish in 21:11.9.
The No. 5 Oregon men also opened its season Saturday with a sixth-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.
Tayson Echohawk was the Ducks’ top runner in the 8K race with an eighth-place finish in 23:49.8. Also for Oregon was No. 16 Juan Gonzalez (24:11.2), No. 43 Jayden Warner (25:00.1), No. 52 Quentin Nauman (25:12.6) and No. 86 Jack Meier (25:55.2).
No. 2 New Mexico had four in the top six, including winner Pasanjo Kitonga (23:24.4).
