Brionna Jones ruled out for remainder of season with left leg injury

Brionna Jones will miss the rest of the 2026 season after suffering a left leg injury on Aug. 13, the Dream announced this week. ESPN’s Kareem Copeland first reported the update. Jones went down in the first half of Atlanta’s 104-69 win over the Connecticut Sun and finished the night with zero points, one rebound, one assist and one block in five minutes.

The injury adds another chapter to a difficult year for the four-time All-Star. Jones tore her meniscus in February while playing overseas for USK Praha in Czechia and underwent knee surgery that kept her out of Atlanta’s first 24 games. She finally made her 2026 debut in mid-July, posting averages of 7.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks in 17.3 minutes across her first three games back.

Jones, the 2021 WNBA Most Improved Player and 2022 Sixth Player of the Year, appeared in just a handful of games before the latest setback ended her season for good.

Angel Reese to lead Dream frontcourt amid WNBA playoff push

Atlanta enters the final week of the regular season with a 26-14 record, tied with the Indiana Fever for the No. 4 seed in the league standings. Angel Reese has carried much of the frontcourt burden all year, and her workload will only increase without Jones available.

Rookie center Madina Okot, the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft, has already absorbed most of Jones’ minutes since the Aug. 13 injury and figures to see an expanded role into the postseason. Atlanta also added veteran forward DeWanna Bonner late in August after her buyout from the Phoenix Mercury, giving head coach Karl Smesko another option off the bench.

The Dream’s frontcourt depth will be tested immediately, with Atlanta closing the regular season against the Connecticut Sun and Chicago Sky before shifting focus to the postseason.
