ND, Valley, 'Burg ranked in state volleyball rankings

In the first MaxPreps rankings of the OHSAA volleyball season, the Wheelersburg Pirates', Valley Indians' and Notre Dame Titans' volleyball programs each sit inside the top 25 overall in their respective divisions, as Wheelersburg (11th in Division IV), Valley (14th in Division VI) and Notre Dame (22nd in Division VII) represent the Scioto County teams who presently hold rankings down as of Tuesday.

With five straight set wins in its nine matches to begin the 2026 season and four-set triumphs over Logan Elm, Eastern Pike and South Point, the Wheelersburg Pirates' volleyball program sits comfortably inside the top-15 in the OHSAA Division IV state rankings as of Tuesday at press time.
The Lady Pirates, whose only loss was to the top-ranked team in the state in Division IV, Gallia Academy, in a match that saw the Blue Devils lose their first set all season, are led by Alyssa Mullins' 142 kills and a .309 attack percentage to go along with 63 digs defensively. Lainey Skeenes' 100 digs and 75 kills and Laikyn Hall's 46 kills and 14 blocks have also helped Wheelersburg excel on both ends of the court in 2026.
Ryleigh Harness' 137 digs and Maddy Fannin's 70 dives have also aided the Lady Pirates greatly on the defensive end of the court, while junior talent Mati Jennings has 192 assists, 100 digs and 30 aces for Wheelersburg.
Valley (9-0, 14th in Division VI as of press time)
With an unblemished 9-0 record heading into SOC III action as of press time, the Valley Indians' volleyball program is enjoying what could be a season to remember so far in 2026.
Having won each of its nine matches in straight set fashion, Valley has dominated for much of the year behind a stout frontline led by Kendyl Christman (120 kills, 62 digs, .353 attack percentage) and Mya Williams (74 kills, 16 blocks, .454 attack percentage) as well as EJ Vice (71 kills, 66 digs).
Along with the trio's attack hitting, the defense of Christman, Williams and Vice, along with Katelyn Queen (51 digs, 17 blocks) and Peyton Hunter (16 blocks) has been highly valuable throughout the season.
Queen has set up the attack throughout the year with 278 assists and is well over 1,400 dimes for her career at Valley, while Indian sophomore libero Laylee McGraw leads the defense with 121 service receptions and 99 digs in 2026.
Notre Dame (7-1, 1-0 SOC I as of press time)
With seven straight match victories on its line, the Notre Dame Titans' volleyball program stands 22nd overall in the OHSAA Division VII rankings according to MaxPreps.
Outside of a four-set victory against SOC I foe New Boston Glenwood, each of Notre Dame's victories have come via straight sets, including a win over SOC III member South Webster and four wins over SOC II competition (Northwest, South Gallia, Symmes Valley, Western) as well as a straight set home win over North Adams.
Jaysa Bryant and Sophie Phillips have led Notre Dame's offense so far in 2026 with 111 and 90 kills, respectively, while Phillips, Tinleigh Coriell and Ryan Purcell have 19, 18 and 13 aces in that order to lead the Lady Titans from the service line.
Defensively, Bella Rush's 138 digs and Phillips 101 digs and nine blocks lead Notre Dame, while Purcell is the Lady Titans' primary setter with 137 assists.
