Fresh off a 41-13 loss to the No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Wisconsin Badgers will be taking on the Western Illinois Leathernecks in their home opener on Saturday, looking to notch their first win of the season.

Last weekend’s game showed both the strengths and areas of improvement for the Badgers, as they were firmly in the mix through the first 30 minutes before collapsing in the second half. Wisconsin’s defense was the main storyline, as they performed quite well in the opening half before looking undisciplined and overmatched as the game went on.

Wisconsin’s offense also showed some promise, but they didn’t have much efficiency on the ground as Notre Dame bottled that up, while Colton Joseph had a costly pick-six in the second half.

The Badgers are now facing a Western Illinois team that lost 41-10 to the Illinois State Redbirds last weekend, really struggling to contain the run. They gave up over 230 rushing yards, and that could be how the Badgers look to impose their will on Saturday.
