The Kansas City Chiefs' offensive line may be without starting left tackle Josh Simmons in Week 1 after head coach Andy Reid gave reporters a grim update on the former Ohio State Buckeye's status on September 8.

Simmons, who joined Kansas City as a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is dealing with a back injury that limited his participation at Chiefs training camp and in the team's three preseason exhibitions.
In the hours after Reid addressed the media about Simmons' disposition for Kansas City's home opener against the Denver Broncos, former Chiefs offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz took to Twitter to share his take on the rapidly deteriorating situation:
I know the Chiefs don’t care what we think of the Josh Simmons situation but they’re also doing absolutely nothing to make any of the speculation, rumors, etc. die down. The entire thing has been weird from the get go given their initial words, timeline, and expectation.

While Simmons has not been officially ruled out for Kansas City's 'Monday Night Football' matchup with the Broncos, all signs point to a likelihood that rookie Kahlil Benson will be the Chiefs' starting left tackle in the highly anticipated primetime showdown.
