Panthers’ Brad Marchand under fire for ‘disrespect’ towards Senators’ Tim Stutzle
· Yahoo Sports
Brad Marchand has drawn criticism after mocking Tim Stutzle amid Ottawa Senators’ search for its next captain. The Florida Panthers forward responded to an Instagram post naming Stutzle, Thomas Chabot, and Jake Sanderson as finalists.
A hockey page named “Puck Empire” shared a post in which they wrote, “The Ottawa Senators are reportedly ‘closing in on a decision on who is going to replace Brady Tkachuk.'”

Marchand responded in the comment section and wrote, “Hahahah …..Stutzle….hahaha,” dismissing the idea of Stutzle wearing Ottawa’s captaincy. The comment soon drew attention and has now led to a debate over whether Marchand crossed a line.

Speaking on The Sid Seixeiro Show, Seixeiro called the remark “highly disrespectful stuff.” He also questioned whether Marchand’s history as an agitator made the comment more significant heading into the season.
“Tim Stutzle is a pretty good hockey player,” Seixeiro said. “He’s not like a superstar. I don’t know if I’d make him captain, but this is highly disrespectful stuff. And I know a lot of people have different takes on Marchand. The thing with Brad Marchand, his entire career, is no one’s kind of squared him up in a serious way.
“I know the fan base doesn’t like this disrespect of Tim Stutzle. Tim Stutzle better not like it.”
The timing makes the situation more interesting. Ottawa is replacing Brady Tkachuk, who joined Florida, while Stutzle remains one of the Senators’ key players and leadership candidates.

“Because if you do, you’re a weak franchise,” Seixeiro said. “You’re not a real franchise. The Maple Leafs have been letting this stuff go for 10 years with Marchand and other people who want to get in their kitchen. No retribution. Zero.”
He suggested Ottawa’s players should respond on the ice rather than through social media. “The next time you see Florida, take the fine and let them know you’re there and defend your kid, Stutzle,” Seixeiro said.
If that happens, such a response carries risk. Ottawa needs disciplined structure more than emotional retaliation, especially if it wants to improve its performance against playoff-level opponents.
Still, Marchand understands how to create pressure before a puck is dropped. His comment puts attention on Stutzle and gives Ottawa another storyline before Florida visits Ottawa on Oct. 21.

The bigger question concerns Stutzle’s leadership. If Ottawa selects him as captain, Marchand’s jab could become another challenge for a young core trying to establish its identity.
Right now, the Senators have no reason to answer Marchand online. Their strongest response will come when the two teams meet, and Ottawa controls the game on the ice.
