Jalen Hurts’ consistency under debate ahead of new season

Jalen Hurts will return as the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback this season. His production has been impressive, but questions about his consistency and the team’s recent results continue to draw attention.

Hurts has 17,891 passing yards, 110 passing touchdowns, 3,557 rushing yards and 63 rushing touchdowns in his career. He has also been selected to three Pro Bowls. In 2025, he threw for 3,224 yards and 25 touchdowns with six interceptions.

The topic was also discussed in a clip shared on X, in which NFL analyst Jason McCourty defended Hurts, citing his career production. “No question. The last thing I’ll say: men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP, you mentioned the runner-up to Mahomes in 2022… This dude has been productive throughout his entire career, no matter who the offensive coordinator has been, how it’s constantly just changed year after year. He continues to rise above.”

Stephen A. Smith took a different view, arguing that the standard changes after a quarterback has already won at the highest level. “But when you win, on your last point, when you win, it ain’t about that no more. Now it’s about: Are you gonna win again? Are you gonna win again? That’s the issue. Nobody is saying he can’t play. They’re saying: Can you do it again?”

The debate around Hurts now centers on whether he can maintain his level of play and help Philadelphia make another deep playoff run.

Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2026 season with a new look

The Philadelphia Eagles open the 2026 season at home against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 13. They then visit the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears in the first three weeks. Philadelphia will face the Commanders, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants twice during the season.

The biggest change is at wide receiver. A.J. Brown was traded to the New England Patriots, while the Eagles added Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore and Dontayvion Wicks.

Philadelphia also selected USC receiver Makai Lemon with the 20th overall pick. Lemon finished college with 137 catches, 2,008 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

On defense, the Eagles acquired Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings. The trade included Philadelphia’s 2026 and 2027 third-round picks, with a seventh-round pick coming back along with Greenard. He gives the Eagles another experienced pass rusher on defense.

Philadelphia will play Dallas on Thanksgiving, November 26. Hurts will lead an offense that looks different at wide receiver following Brown’s departure.
