2019 Undrafted Forward Shares Fanboy Moment He Had Upon Learning He’ll Be Teammates with LeBron James

· Yahoo Sports

Everybody wants to play with LeBron James. When it was announced that he would play for the Philadelphia 76ers this season, a former Philly center posted an emoji and consoled him, saying that he is good where he is — with the New York Knicks.

Another former teammate, Markieff Morris, thought he should un-retire and take a veteran roster spot with the Sixers. Morris was James’ former Los Angeles Lakers teammate during the 2020 season, when they won the NBA championship.

Unfortunately for those guys, they will not have that special opportunity. Somebody who is also a fan of LeBron will get it, and he openly admits that he became a fanboy upon learning that he would be joined by the four-time MVP in Philadelphia.

“I was actually outside playing with my daughter when my wife came out and said, “Hey, you need to look at your phone.” I was so confused at first, and she was like, “Just look at your phone.” That notification was there, and I really thought it was fake at first,” Dean Wade recalled (in an exclusive interview with Clutch Points).

“I didn’t believe it at first, but then I kept seeing it scrolling through the feed until I actually realized and was like, “Oh my god.” Then I made some calls to get confirmation, and it was true. LeBron was joining the team. It was crazy, and I was kind of fanboying at first with how excited I was. I never would’ve thought I would be teammates with LeBron. (Dean laughs) It was a crazy couple of hours texting and calling people about it.”

Wade transferred to the 76ers via free agency when he signed a four-year, $38.7 million contract. He last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers which has been his team since 2019 when he went undrafted despite his good stint in college with Kansas State. He joined the Sixers a month before LeBron made his decision.

LeBron James and the 76ers’ title chances

Wade will not only get the chance to play with King James. He also has a legit chance to win the title. The 29-year-old forward knows it, too.

He thinks that the team got the talent and it is the best team he has played for.

“There is no doubt in my mind that this team has what it takes to compete for a championship.”

Early NBA odds are agreeing with him. They are ranked first in the Eastern Conference, tied with defending champions New York Knicks.

Jaylen Brown, their other superstar who the Sixers also acquired this summer from a trade with the Boston Celtics, has been previewing his dynamics with his teammates. He said they recently had a workout and he thought James looked good, leaving him hyped for their title quest.
