Bills add familiar linebacker to practice squad

The Bills hadn’t signed any holdovers from the previous regime to their practice squad… until now.

As clubs around the league are filling out their practice squad on Monday evening, Buffalo News’ reporter Jay Skurski tweeted the following about Shaq Thompson set to return to Orchard Park:

The Bills have a deal in place to bring a familiar face back to the organization. According to a league source, the team is signing linebacker Shaq Thompson to the practice squad.

Thompson played admirably for the Bills in 2025, his first with the team after a long tenure in Carolina. He played on 42.4% of Buffalo’s defensive snaps a season ago and made 56 tackles, six tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one sack, and one forced fumble.

Thompson made 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, and snagged an interception — against the Jaguars — in the Bills two playoff games in January.

Now 32, the longtime veteran is part of Buffalo’s practice squad to provide experienced depth behind Terrel Bernard, Dorian Williams, Kaleb Elarms-Orr, and Joe Andreessen at inside linebacker in Jim Leonhard’s scheme.

What’s most intriguing about this addition — it appears as though Thompson was picked over Matt Milano on the practice squad.
