Another major water outage for parts of Durban

Residents in parts of Umlazi, Ensimbini and Folweni are experiencing a water outage after a suspected restriction on the Southern Aqueduct left several reservoirs with critically low water levels.
The eThekwini Municipality said the suspected restriction is affecting the Umlazi-Golokodo Bulk Water Supply System, reducing inflows to multiple reservoirs and preventing them from recovering overnight.

As a result, water distribution to several communities has been disrupted.
Water outage cause still under investigation
Municipal technical teams from the Water Operations South and Central Regions are currently on site carrying out a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the water outage.
The municipality said every effort is being made to identify the problem and implement the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.
However, the exact cause of the interruption has not yet been established, meaning the city is currently unable to provide a timeframe for when normal water supply will be restored.
Residents will be updated as more information becomes available.
To provide temporary relief, eThekwini said water tankers will be dispatched to affected communities while investigations and repair work continue.

Umlazi 2 Reservoir

Umlazi 3 Reservoir
- Umlazi J, K and L sections
Umlazi 4 Reservoir
- Umlazi U, X (Malukazi), Y and Z sections
Umlazi 5 Reservoir
- Umlazi AA, BB as well as Z sections
Umlazi 6 Reservoir
- Umlazi AA, BB and CC sections
Ensimbini 1 and 2 Reservoirs
- Ensimbini, Ntabankulu, Draaihoek, Mahlabathini, Mangamazini and Mkhazini
Folweni 1 and 2 Reservoirs
- Folweni A, B and C, Golokodo, Dodoza as well as Isiphingo Esincane
The municipality has urged affected residents to use water sparingly where it is still available and to make use of water tankers while the investigation continues. Officials said further updates will be issued as soon as the cause of the interruption has been identified and a timeline for repairs can be confirmed.
