Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman sat down with the media today for an informal question and answer session. One topic that Freeman was asked during the two-session interview was the health status of talented redshirt junior offensive lineman Charles Jagusah.

"The expectation's right now is just continue to help him get to a position where he can play football," Freeman explained. "He won't be ready to start the season, but at some point, can we get him to a point where he can help our team? That's the goal for everybody. ... That would be just time, healing and strength, and so it's going to take time. There is no timetable right now. It's just that, when you're dealing with nerves, you're doing those type of things. ... You keep working until you're at a point, but he will at some point, will play football; he will."
Freeman noted that right now Jagusah does not have a set time when he will return, and it doesn't sound like that time will be soon. Freeman was, however, optimistic that the time will come that Jagusah returns to the line, possibly even for the 2026 season.
"He's just continuing to try to work on strength," Freeman noted. "When you're dealing with nerves, you just have to let Mother Nature take its course. You've got to let science kind of figure itself out, but I do believe he will play for us at some point. I don't know when. I don't know when.
"Actually, if you ask me to bet, I would hope it's this season at some point. I don't know though," continued Freeman. "That's all going to be how this arm continues to strengthen. But there's positive signs, there's very positive signs.
Jagusah has dealt with plenty during his time at Notre Dame, well beyond the injury issues that cost him all but two games of the 2024 and 2025 seasons. According to Freeman, Jagusah has shown tremendous maturity while working through those struggles.
"He's been through so much, not even just through injury; family deaths, just a lot of stuff that weighs on a young person's mind," said the Irish head coach. "He's handled it like an absolute champ, and he's got a great support system and his teammates and his coaches at home. But it's nothing you wish for anybody you care about. You don't wish they go through some of the things he's gone through, and he just continues to come here with a great attitude and go to work.
"So I don't know when he's going to be on that football field, but I think he'll at some point, hopefully, sooner than later, be on the field."
