Augsburg boss Benjamin Weber confirms “big market” interest in Kömür and Claude-Maurice amid exit talk

German media have suggested that Mert Kömür is targeting a summer move away from FC Augsburg in search of more regular playing time after starting 16 of the 33 Bundesliga matches he was available for during the 2025/26 season.

The 20-year-old attacker has previously been linked with the likes of Besiktas, AC Milan and FC Porto, but Belgium currently appears to be the most likely destination should he leave, with both Sky and Kicker reporting that Club Brugge are showing interest.
Another Augsburg attacker who could be on the move this summer is Alexis Claude-Maurice, with the Frenchman said to have attracted interest from clubs in his homeland after racking up five goals and four assists in the Bundesliga last season.
While Kömür is under contract until 2029, Claude-Maurice has just one year remaining on his deal, meaning the club may look to sell the Frenchman this summer unless a new deal is on the horizon.
When asked by Bulinews.com about the futures of Kömür and Claude-Maurice, Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber confirmed that the two players have “big markets”, but also noted there is nothing concrete on the table. One possible reason, according to Weber, is that the transfer market is traditionally quieter when a World Cup tournament is underway.
“First of all, we are pretty happy that other clubs or people are talking about our players, because that means we have a stage to develop not only youth players, but also players like Alexis, who came to us at an older age. This means other high-potential talents would like to join FC Augsburg because they know we can write a story and develop together," Weber told Bulinews.com in an exclusive interview.
He added:
“If there’s a possibility for them to grow and maybe have bigger contracts in a bigger league, everybody can dream, and everybody has this objective. It’s in our hands. That’s the main thing and very important for us at FC Augsburg. But yes, they have a big market. I also read some rumours, but there’s no news yet, and I think this has something to do with the World Cup.”

“The market is not really open yet, so let's see”
Asked whether any of them have expressed a desire to leave this summer, Weber insisted both remain happy at Augsburg.
“It always depends on the situation. When we spoke last season, they did great. Mert almost doubled his minutes compared to the season before, and Alexis was involved in lots of goals in the second half of the season. So they’ve been very happy," Weber said.
At the same time, Weber acknowledged that it's understandable if players consider their options when interest arises.
"It’s very natural, normal and human that if there are possibilities, you try to figure out what’s best for you personally. In the end, it’s in our hands, like I said. For sure, the market for both of them is big, because they are decisive, offensive players. They did a great job so far, and they can do that as well next season. For now, we plan with Mert and Alexis, that’s for sure. But the market is not really open yet, so let’s see.”
