Balogun was, unfortunately, sent off shortly after the hour mark for an untimely tackle and will miss the clash with Belgium, but Mauricio Pochettino's side was composed and confident throughout, from first to last whistle.

USMNT player ratings vs Bosnia & Herzegovina, round of 32

Matt Freese: 6 - Made 3 saves on the night, all of which came from the edge of the box and gave him plenty of time to see the ball coming in. Hasn't had to make a meaningful play yet, but will at some points — probably in the next round.

Alex Freeman: 6.5 - Hardly a threat came down Bosnia's left wing, but Freeman was on point with his passes (58-for-60).

Chris Richards: 7 - An absolute monster in the air, especially late as B&H whipped and floated cross after cross in the box. Someone had to rise and head them away.

Tim Ream: 7 - Clearance after clearance after clearance down the left flank, there was hardly a chance to be had after his 9 clearances between ground and air.

Sergiño Dest: 6.5 - Combination play down the right was the best path forward in the first half, and even if it didn't lead to a goal it was a constant worry for Bosnia's defense.

Tyler Adams: 7 - It's hard to say anyone was below a 7/10 in this one, because everyone dug deep and did what was required. The midfield was impossible to play through, and he's always a big part of that.

Weston McKennie: 6.5 - It wasn't necessarily the final product, but who's the one who always pops up in the right place at the right time to win a 50-50 ball or crowd somebody out for a teammate to win the ball? Nobody makes more "not on the stat sheet, but had to be made" plays.

Antonee Robinson: 7 - Desperation down the left side, winning the ball back more than causing problems in the final third. He's one of the best left backs in the world, on both sides of the ball. This was a game for the defensive side.

Malik Tillman: 8 - What a free kick, to seal the USMNT's place in the round of 16. Down a man, against the run of play. The only chance in 30 minutes. There are moments, and there are big moments.

Christian Pulisic: 6.5 - It wasn't his most impactful game in the final third, but so many of the USMNT's chances came in transition moments that didn't require the best player to provide a moment of magic. It's a good spot to be in.

Folarin Balogun: 7 - His goal was well taken and the red card harsh, full stop. There was zero intent or even awareness that he would catch Tarik Muharemovic from behind. Clumsy, yes. Malicious, never in a million years.
