The World Cup is in full swing, and we’ve seen enough of the key runners and riders to pick out a few favourites for the tournament.
Argentina were impressive against Algeria last week, Kylian Mbappe was as electric as ever for France vs Senegal, while England put on a real show against Croatia in a 4-2 win.

Brazil picked up their first win against Haiti on Friday, but speaking on The Rest is Football, Patrick Vieira gave an unconvincing verdict on Brazil’s chances of winning the World Cup.
Indeed, Vieira actually claimed that England may be more likely champions than Brazil at this point.
Patrick Vieira compares Brazil’s chances with England
Vieira was asked whether he thinks Brazil can win the World Cup.
The Arsenal legend made it clear that he doesn’t fancy Carlo Ancelotti’s side in this tournament, naming the likes of France, England and Argentina as teams he believes are more likely champions.
“Patrick, can Brazil win this?” Gary Lineker asked.
“Listen, it’s just two games so far, watching the two games so far, they are quite behind Argentina, behind France, behind England, I don’t think they have enough to win the World Cup. I see a lot of individual talent, but I don’t see a team playing well together,” Vieira said.
“They’re behind those three or four nations.”
“I think like watching England, for example, I’m convinced that England have more of a chance to win the World Cup than Brazil, do you know what I mean?”
Vieira fancies England to outdo Brazil at this World Cup, and that is a rare sight.
Indeed, historically, Brazil have been much better than England at this competition. In recent memory, only in 1990 and 2018 have England outperformed Brazil.
That said, Brazil haven’t won a World Cup since 2002, which is a long time for the most successful footballing nation of all-time. However, it does pale in comparison to England’s 60 years of hurt.
Brazil are perennial World Cup contenders, but England may well be the better team at this tournament.
