Fiorentina fans react to video message from new President Commisso

Fiorentina President Giuseppe Commisso has released a lengthy video statement after a difficult season, where he inherited the reins from his father, but the response from fans was not positive.

He took over when his father, self-made Italian-American businessman Rocco Commisso, died on January 17, having purchased the club in the summer of 2019.

Having been born and raised in the USA, Giuseppe Commisso does not speak Italian, so gave the video speech in the English language.

Commisso noted the importance of bringing in director Fabio Paratici in February, who had been under contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

Although also thanking coach Paolo Vanoli for taking them from rock bottom to safety, becoming the first team in Serie A history to survive after failing to win any of the first 15 matches.

Nonetheless, Vanoli will not have his contract renewed, and it is widely reported that Sassuolo coach Fabio Grosso will be appointed.

The response was not entirely positive from the Fiorentina fans, as many of the comments below asked “is this AI?” and mentioned the rather familiar cadence and hand gestures so regularly seen from American President Donald Trump.

Others with longer memories compared it to the way then-Milan chief Silvio Berlusconi threw his hat into the political ring in 1994.

Above all, they complained that there was not a hint of an apology for the way the season had gone, and there had already been calls for the Commisso family to sell Fiorentina earlier in the campaign.
