Former Penn State DE absent from Tennessee workouts

While several former Nittany Lions' minds are made up, one has shown at the very least a little bit of displeasure with his new situation. Former defensive end Chaz Coleman has been absent from summer workouts with his new school in Tennessee, as per reports. While Tennessee should not worry about Coleman considering their own pedigree and new look coaching staff, it is important to note that similar instances have cropped up for him.

Coleman has not only missed the start of summer, but also the Tennessee spring games and countless other practices. Eight hours away from his hometown is not as manageable, and after suffering a head injury with the Blue and White, he could be experiencing a lot of different emotions now in Knoxville. “[Coleman] has been dealing with some things, and we’re here to support him,” Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said on Wednesday at SEC spring meetings.

It is also important to note that the Vols did hire former Penn State DC Jim Knowles to bolster their defensive prowess, potentially being the reason Coleman followed him down south. Also, Tennessee wanted a high profile transfer that could produce immediate results. As the No. 3 transfer in his class, Coleman filled that profile after just one season in collegiate football. In a defensive end room filled with elite talent, Coleman was able to stand out.

Now, he must overcome a tumult of emotions to become the face of Tennessee football. In a new home, it may not be easy, but he may have a bigger platform to succeed than with the Nittany Lions in the SEC. Let's see if he can handle it.
