Nixed Maxx Crosby trade made Jets' Sauce Gardner deal look better

NFL free agency has welcomed a flurry of big-time deals around the NFL.

Before Monday's legal tampering window even opened, we had a major trade over the weekend. The Las Vegas Raiders traded superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks (2026 and 2027).

Until the latest news of it being canceled... but it is still relevant.

The Crosby deal makes the New York Jets' Sauce Gardner trade look so much better.

In November, near the NFL trade deadline, the Jets traded Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and two first-round picks; one in 2026 and one in 2027.

The Jets technically got more for Gardner than the Raiders got for Crosby. They both received first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, but the Jets also got a useful player in Adonai Mitchell. Mitchell projects as a keynote contributor in 2026.

It's especially impressive considering Crosby plays a more premium position than Gardner does.

Gardner only appeared in four games with the Colts due to an injury. The Colts went 1-7 following the Gardner trade and owe the Jets the No. 16 overall selection in this year's draft (and next year's first-round pick) as a result.

The Crosby trade just proved Darren Mougey got excellent value back in the Gardner deal.
