Big Fight Weekend verdict: Pedro Taduran retains world title thanks to activity

Pedro Taduran (21-4-1, 14 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Brandon Moreno (16-1, 5 KOs).

Scores for their bout were 120-108 and 115-113 (x2). Taduran remains the IBF minimumweight world champion with the win. He won the title in 2024 against Ginjiro Shigeoka. This was his fourth time defending it. Taduran had also become IBF minimumweight world champion in 2019, losing the belt in 2021 against Rene Mark Cuarto.

Taduran-Moreno took place on a Nov. 7 Salita Promotions card at the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, NM. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on Wynn Records Network.

Moreno started off by moving around the ring in order to stay out of punching range, throwing shots from a distance. Taduran was content with being the aggressor and often tagged the challenger. Moreno’s approach did not give him a ton of success. His punch output was low and his movement around the ring did not help him avoid many of the shots coming his way.

Taduran’s greater activity was clearly valued by the judges. Moreno may have avoided lengthy exchanges with his movement, but his relatively lower punch output cost him in the end.
