Vikings-Bills MNF score predictions from the Bring Me The Sports staff

· Yahoo Sports

Monday night is a big one for the Vikings. Not only are they looking to rebound from their first loss of the season in a primetime showdown against the Bills, but this game could have a significant impact on how Nolan Teasley approaches the following afternoon’s trade deadline.

It’ll be the 6-1 Vikings and the NFL’s best defense going against the 6-1 Bills and the NFL’s best offense at U.S. Bank Stadium to wrap up Week 9. This should be fun, as long as Carson Wentz can help Minnesota achieve competence in the passing game.

Here are our staff writers’ score predictions.

Will Ragatz: Bills 24, Vikings 20

I was pretty tempted to pick the Vikings to bounce back as home underdogs in this one. But as you’ll end up seeing below, my colleagues all felt the same way, and it didn’t feel right for all of us to be picking against Josh Allen. I do think Brian Flores’ defense will challenge Allen more than any other team in the NFL has or can. He is not a quarterback who you shut down, though. The Vikings are going to need to score points to keep pace, and it’s a little nerve-inducing to trust Carson Wentz, who is prone to sacks and errant throws. He completed just 59 percent of his passes in the first two games of this season. The Bills have a major QB advantage in this game, which could make the difference in a close one.

Joe Nelson: Vikings 41, Bills 17

The problem that has held back the Vikings’ offense for almost every game this season has been fixed: Kyler Murray is down, Carson Wentz is up. Against the 30th-ranked Bills defense, Wentz will throw for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns. We will still have lingering questions about an average running game, but Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison will be happy for the first time since Carson was throwing them the ball in Week 1. Josh Allen will present problems, but his processing skills will be tested by an elite Vikings defense and Minnesota will absolutely shellack the Bills at home in primetime, allowing the entire world to see what a fully functioning Vikings team is capable of doing.

Tony Liebert: Vikings 23, Bills 20

The Vikings’ defense is good enough to compete with any team in the NFL, and their offense might just need to be average in order to win. I expect the decision to start Carson Wentz to give Minnesota’s offense just the spark they need in order to make a few more plays than the Bills. Monday Night Football at U.S. Bank Stadium is the type of environment this team needs to get some momentum back in their season. I think they sneak past Buffalo.

Jonathan Harrison: Vikings 24, Bills 21

Justin Jefferson’s best game this season came in the season opener, when Carson Wentz was chucking him the ball. After showing his displeasure last week, I think Kevin O’Connell and Wentz spam the Jefferson button and continually force the ball to their star playmaker. This will be another big test to show just how real Flores’ defensive squad is. I think we see a bounce-back performance from Minnesota, capped by a late Will Reichard game-winning field goal.

Adam Uren: Vikings 30, Bills 24

It’s the saddest 6-1 start to a season in NFL history, and with the high-powered Buffalo Bills visiting Minneapolis, you’d expect the bad times to continue for the Vikings. BUT NO! I’ve got Josh Allen as my dynasty fantasy football QB and I am absolutely sure he’s going to crap the bed and screw me out of a win on Monday. As long as the Vikings’ defense does a better job of stopping James Cook than they did Jahmyr Gibbs, and as long as Carson Wentz can produce the basic competence missing from Minnesota’s QB position so far this year, I think the Vikings confound the experts.

You can find our picks from last week here. Season records for our pickers:

  • Joe Nelson: 7-0
  • Will Ragatz: 5-2
  • Jonathan Harrison: 5-2
  • Tony Liebert: 5-2
  • Adam Uren: 4-3
