According to voter results, the Afrikaner-only town, which falls under the Northern Cape’s Thembelihle Municipality, received an overwhelming majority led by the Freedom Front Plus party, led by Pieter Groenewald.
ORANIA’S EFF VOTER GOES VIRAL
As with what occurred in 2024 during the general elections, an individual exercised their democratic right to vote – for the EFF at the local government elections – at the Orania Town Hall voter station.
The voter results for the Afrikaner-only vote were released to the public and revealed an unmistakable lead for the conservative Afrikaans party, Freedom Front Plus.
Here’s a look at the results.
- Freedom Front Plus – 405
- DA – 44
- ACDP – 5
- EFF – 1
- PA – 1
- ANC – 0
The single individual who voted for the EFF – whose identity remains unknown – quickly became a social media sensation.

AFRIKAANS-ONLY TOWN HAS ITS OWN ELECTIONS
While Orania hosted a voter station – and permitted residents to exercise their rights to a democratic vote – it also held its own elections, sans political parties.
Leader Joost Strydom posted on X: “Orania holding its own elections today [4 November]. Zero political parties. All candidates are independent and do not receive any pay for their service to the community.
The self-sufficient town elected members of its Orania Representative Council (OVR) – its highest democratically elected community body – which determines representation in the town’s own governing structure and residents’ interests.
The election marked the inaugural one held under the OVR’s new constitution, which launched in August.
As with IEC elections, voters in Orania must be
- 18 years old on election day.
- Be registered on the town’s voters’ roll.
Voters must also have lived in Orania for more than three months and have the right of residence in the town.
