Jacoby Brissett trade gives Zay Flowers and the Ravens' offense a fantasy lifeline

· Yahoo Sports

What originally began as a beautiful dream for the Ravens (and fantasy football managers invested in the team) devolved into a nightmare over the course of a few weeks. Zay Flowers, Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry started the season on a note where many were extremely excited for what was to come.

Unfortunately, that bright future never came to pass, as Flowers dealt with a hamstring injury, only to return to see both his quarterbacks — first Lamar Jackson, now Snoop Huntley (and Lamar again) — suffer injuries. Huntley is done for the season with a turf toe injury, while Jackson has been placed on IR with a thumb ailment that required surgery and could also end his season.

Thoughts of Flowers being a top-five receiver, of Henry once again laughing in the face of Father Time, went right out the window.

Or maybe not? Yahoo Sports analysts Nate Tice and Matt Harmon discuss the major move the Ravens made to try to save their season in the video above.

After losing Jackson and Huntley to injuries on Sunday, the 4-4 Ravens didn't throw in the towel, reportedly opting to trade for the veteran Brissett. Now, Brissett just finished getting benched by the Cardinals, but we have seen in the past that he not only can keep some fantasy stars afloat, but he can help them reach their weekly ceilings. We can't just forget that it was with Jacoby Brissett throwing the ball that we witnessed the rise of Trey McBride and Michael Wilson as weekly fantasy starters.

The Cardinals haven't been that potent, garbage-time-crushing offense this season, as the team has had many (of the usual) issues. I think we can all agree that the Ravens are a better-run system than the Cardinals. Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's system has already proven itself to be a boon to Flowers and Henry, no matter who's been at quarterback between Jackson and Huntley.

Brissett won't be able to help the Ravens or fantasy managers this week since the deal won't be finalized before Baltimore hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday — rookie Joe Fagnano will get the nod at QB. However, here's hoping Brissett decides to let it fly again as part of this fantasy-friendly offense.
