A wayward alligator in Florida put up a bit of a fight when it was led into the back seat of a sheriff deputy’s cruiser after it was found wandering near a plaza last week.

According to a social media post by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the plaza in a tourist area on Saturday, when an officer with “prior alligator experience” wrangled the animal and returned it to the water.
In bodycam footage accompanying the post, the deputy grabs the alligator by the tail with his bare hands as it tries to escape through a fence.
After pulling it toward him, he clamps both hands onto the animal’s mouth. The video cuts to him wrapping duct tape around its mouth.
As he makes he way to his vehicle, he stops with the gator for photos with tourists who had gathered at the scene.

As the deputy is about to put the alligator in the back seat of his cruiser, it makes a last-ditch effort to break free, wriggling as the deputy grasps firmly onto its head.
The animal is then released near a marshy area.
“They came for the attractions — they got the full Florida experience!” the sheriff’s office joked in the Instagram post.
On a serious note, it reminded the public not to approach, feed or handle alligators and to keep children and pets away from the water’s edge.
It also encouraged visitors to enjoy the state’s wildlife from a safe distance.
