Ramashray Pandey, General Manager, Western Railway, felicitated eight employees with the General Manager's "Man of the Month" Safety Awards for the months of August 2026 and September 2026 at the Western Railway Headquarters, Mumbai. These employees were recognised for their exemplary alertness, dedication and commitment to duty, which played a significant role in preventing potential untoward incidents and ensuring safe train operations. The awardees included two employees from Mumbai Central Division, three employees from Ratlam Division and one employee each from Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Rajkot Divisions.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, one of the awardees from Mumbai Central Division, Rajesh Gawad, Senior Technician, Vasai Road, was honoured for his exceptional vigilance during the rolling-in examination of a goods train. He noticed that the loading HR coil lashing of a wagon was broken. A detailed check revealed that three out of four lashing strips were broken and a wooden runner was missing, causing the coil to tilt, which led to further technical issues. He promptly issued a memo and alerted the concerned authorities to rectify the defect, thereby averting a serious problem and preventing potential disruptions on the main line.

Another noteworthy instance of alertness was displayed by Jitendra Kumar, Loco Pilot (Goods), Udhna, Mumbai Central Division, who acted swiftly while operating locomotive movement from Bharuch Yard along with his Assistant Loco Pilot. While proceeding based on hand signals, the crew exercised due caution and closely monitored the track layout. Jitendra Kumar noticed that although two manual points were properly aligned, the third point was set in the wrong direction. Demonstrating prompt presence of mind and high safety consciousness, he immediately brought the locomotive to a halt before the incorrectly set point and informed the operating staff to secure it correctly before proceeding, thereby averting an unsafe movement and safeguarding railway infrastructure.
Employees from other divisions were also felicitated for their exemplary presence of mind and swift response in identifying and addressing safety hazards. Their commendable actions included timely detecting hot axles on passing goods trains, spotting an improperly positioned wheel flange on a MEMU rake at Vadodara, detecting abnormal overheating in a locomotive axle box at Ratlam, reporting a dangling cable over an overhead equipment (OHE) wire, and flagging a hanging part beneath a freight wagon at Lakadiya station.
Western Railway commends all the awardees for their dedication, professionalism and strong safety consciousness. Their commendable actions not only prevented possible untoward incidents but also reinforced Western Railway's unwavering commitment towards ensuring safe and reliable train operations. Their efforts reflect the highest standards of professionalism and serve as an inspiration to fellow railway employees.
