Students at the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus have been told to shelter in place, the school’s social media account said in an alert issued late Monday night.
The warning said school officials had received reports of police activity at the McLuhan Court Residence at 3330 Residence Rd.

It was unclear what prompted the response, although multiple reports said that emergency officials were dealing with an “active threat.”
The school’s campus status map said in an update at about 11 p.m. that police had confirmed that shots were fired in the area and that they had secured the surrounding area.
School officials said in a statement to the Toronto Sun that they are “aware of police activity on the University of Toronto Mississauga campus and have issued an alert to the campus community to shelter-in-place.
“Alerts will continue to be sent every 30 minutes until police deem the area safe,” the statement said, referring further comment to Peel Regional Police.

The school’s campus status map issued a “critical” update at about 10:31 p.m. on Monday night, saying the lockdown continues and to shelter in place “until further instructions.”
They advised people to stay away from the campus and keep roads, routes or walkways clear for emergency personnel.
Anyone on campus is urged to stay 30 m away from entrances to affected buildings and to not return to affected buildings until told it is safe to do so by campus security or police.
