Suspicious Bank Transactions Trigger Investigation
The investigation unfolded after suspicious transactions were detected in a State Bank of India account belonging to Marjina Begum, a resident of Ganesh Nagar under Chandmari Police Station in Guwahati. Within a span of just 47 days between June 22 and August 5, the account received credits amounting to lakhs of rupees, which were withdrawn almost immediately after each deposit.
Further probes implicated Mofijul Haque, aged 22, and Himangshu Das, aged 19, both residents of Bamunimaidan in Guwahati, in executing suspicious financial transactions linked to the account.

Preliminary findings indicate that the syndicate has been operating across multiple states for roughly two years, utilising a network of mule bank accounts to siphon off several crores of rupees from victims. Authorities believe the mastermind behind the operation coordinates activities from outside Assam. The STF is continuing its investigation to dismantle the broader network, locate remaining syndicate members, trace the complete flow of fraudulent funds, and establish the full extent of involvement by Pakistan-based intelligence operatives or other anti-national elements.
