Nicklaus racked up 73 PGA Tour wins throughout his illustrious career, including a record 18 major championships.
Meanwhile, Koepka only has nine PGA Tour wins to his name, but five of those have been majors.
He is definitely a player who excels when the pressure is at its most intense, and his record in the majors proves that.
Brooks Koepka has a mentality that few golfers possess whereby he is more comfortable when challenging for majors down the back nine than he is playing in a regular PGA Tour event.
Jack Nicklaus was the same. The Golden Bear often produced his best golf when he needed it most in the four biggest tournaments in the sport.
So, it surely goes without saying that the now 86-year-old will have great respect for someone who performs similarly to the way that he did during his prime.
Jack Nicklaus shared his opinion on Brooks Koepka as a golfer
During an interview with the Palm Beach Post, Nicklaus gave his true feelings on Koepka as a player, just after he won his second US Open title in a row at Shinnecock Hills in 2018.
“I like him,” Nicklaus said.
“He’s a strong kid. As I said at the Open he was calm, collected and confident. You could add cool to that if you want to.
“Once you win one U.S. Open and then you come back and win another U.S. Open, all of a sudden you believe that you can do what you’re doing. You believe in your own stuff.
“It looked like he believed he was in his rightful place. He played like it. He did a great job. I was very happy for him, very proud of him. I was delighted to see how well he played.”
Of course, Koepka went on to win three more majors after his victory at Shinnecock Hills in 2018.
All three of those majors came at the PGA Championship in 2018, 2019 and 2023. Now the 36-year-old will be intent on adding to his major tally as he attempts to write his name in the history books as one of the greatest to ever do it.
