With the Boston Red Sox expected to add another starting pitcher in this year's MLB free-agent class, there have been rumblings about a guy like Michael King potentially returning to the East Coast.

King, a Northeast guy who played for the New York Yankees and went to college down the street at Boston College, would be an excellent addition to the Red Sox rotation.

If the Red Sox lose Sonny Gray, replacing him with a guy like King, especially since he's younger, would be a wise move.

While it's still uncertain what King is looking for in this year's free-agent class, there's an expectation he will get paid handsomely because of how bad the class is.

That could benefit the Red Sox, as two Chicago Cubs writers for The Athletic recently noted that King could prefer returning to the East Coast.

“The assumption is that King will elect to become a free agent after such a strong platform season (12-10, 3.21 ERA, 185 innings pitched) and playoff performance. Since he received a qualifying offer last offseason, the Padres can’t extend another one this time.

“If King, 31, doesn’t stay in San Diego, he may prefer options on the East Coast. He went to high school in Rhode Island, played at Boston College and excelled as a swingman for the New York Yankees,” Patrick Mooney and Shadev Sharma wrote.

The best part about King is that he already understands what it takes to play in the AL East and has succeeded.

Part of the Juan Soto trade that sent Soto to the Yankees a couple of years ago, King has made a name for himself as a starter. He was lights out in this postseason, showing he deserves every dollar coming his way over the next couple of months.
