Why the Milwaukee Bucks have trusted Kasparas Jakucionis to close out their first 2 games this season

Kasparas Jakucionis was part of the haul the Milwaukee Bucks received in the blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo trade this summer, and the 20-year-old combo guard is making the most of his opportunity with his new NBA team.

Many expected Jakucionis to be a fringe player, but the Illinois product hasn’t played like one thus far. In his first two games of the 2026-27 campaign, Jakucionis has been part of the Milwaukee Bucks’ closing lineup against the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls, despite not starting, and he could do the same against the Philadelphia 76ers later.

Before the regular season started, Kasparas Jakucionis did well in preseason, averaging 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists, albeit on 36.8 percent shooting from the field in three appearances. What’s noticeable about the former No. 20 pick is that he has worked on attacking downhill, applying rim pressure, and creating plays for his teammates this summer.

Against Washington, Jakucionis contributed 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a block on 4-for-7 shooting in 26 minutes. He followed it up by recording seven points, five assists, and two steals on 2-for-4 shooting in 23 minutes against Chicago last night.

Milwaukee Bucks’ Tyler Herro not surprised at Kasparas Jakucionis’ growth

Tyler Herro has been teammates with Kasparas Jakucionis in the past few months, and the Milwaukee Bucks star strongly believes Jakucionis earned his minutes under head coach Taylor Jenkins. Herro particularly praised Jakucionis for his basketball IQ, energy, and ability to mesh well with the other guards.

“He’s a hard worker at the end of the day. He wants to learn. He wants to get better. The sky’s the limit for him. He’s a very smart player. He’s someone that I trust with the ball at the end of the game, so I can see why Coach (Jenkins) does as well,” Herro said of Jakucionis.
