Bayern Munich reportedly "decided against" signing Manzambi last summer

Bayern Munich could apparently have signed Johan Manzambi last summer before Aston Villa met SC Freiburg's asking price.

According to Sky Germany, the Munich club seriously considered the Swiss international but ultimately opted to drop their transfer plans.

"Well, he's a player they were interested in last summer. They could have signed him then. But nothing came of it.

"They decided against the signing," explained the pay-TV channel's chief reporter Florian Plettenberg regarding Bayern's intentions.

The decision at the time was apparently based on the conviction that Bayern held sufficient quality in their own squad in central midfield.

As a result, the Bavarian giants relied on their existing options and therefore refrained from making a serious move for Manzambi.

The 21-year-old instead moved from Freiburg to Aston Villa, with the Premier League club paying €70million in the Swiss international.

In his first six competitive matches for Villa, Manzambi has already made a name for himself by contributing six goals and assists.

With good form changing his economic valuation, Plettenberg senses a move to Bayern down the line now seems highly unlikely

“It's simply no longer financially feasible for Bayern. It's a transfer, and it's just incredibly unrealistic at the moment," he concluded.
