Longhorns attempting to flip four-star Michigan commit Xavier Muhammad

· Yahoo Sports

As the Texas Longhorns look to turn their season around, they also have an eye on the future. On Thursday, they offered four-star recruit Xavier Muhammad, a member of the 2027 class. Although Muhammad has committed to Michigan, the Longhorns are not giving up on their hopes of adding him to their defense.

Currently, 247Sports ranks Muhammad as the 16th-best defensive lineman in his class. They also rank the Shadow Creek star as the 21st-best player from the Lone Star State and the 145th-best player in the nation. That ranking could change, since his high school career isn't yet in the books.

During the recruiting process, Muhammad received offers from Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Houston, TCU, Iowa, Kentucky, Miami, SMU, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. Before committing to Michigan, he toured Arizona State, Vanderbilt, and TCU.

While Muhammad has made headlines with his play, he has also added to his trophy case over the last few years. He was named the Texas District 22-6A Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore. Texas hopes his next stop will be in Austin, where he can help the Longhorns win a national title.

If Muhammad were to commit to Texas, he would join a class full of talent. The Longhorns have secured commitments from five-star recruit Ismael Camara. He will be joined by four-star recruits Kasi Currie, Landon Williams-Callis, Cameron Hall, Brock Williams, Jabarrius Garror, and Brian Swanson. That list could continue to grow with more options on the board.

Over the next few weeks, Muhammad will be a player to watch as he weighs all his options.
